The headquarters of Turkey's Peace and Democracy Party (BDP) was attacked by unidentified gunmen late on Friday.
In a statement made after the attack that took place at around 2130 hours, the deputy chairperson of BDP, Gulten Kisanak, said that "we condemn those who have perpetrated the attack, those who tolerate such attacks and those who encourage such attacks."
Kisanak said that the BDP headquarters was attacked by armed assailants on Friday night.
According to Kisanak, more than 15 bullets were fired on the BDP headquarters.
Our headquarters was empty at the time of the attack. Had there been individuals in the building, many of them could have been killed, Kisanak said.
If a political party gets attacked frequently and if the (Turkish) government, Prime Minister, Interior Minister, those responsible for security in the country and political parties do not condemn such attacks, then we have to express that we are being seriously discriminated against, Kisanak underlined.
If an official has not phoned us to express sadness over the armed attack and not assured us that the shooting will be investigated and those responsible for the attack would be brought to justice, then we do have the right to stress that we are being discriminated against, Kisanak noted.
Had the armed attack taken place against any other political party (in Turkey), would the reaction have been the same? We have not witnessed a similar reaction (by Turkish officials). On the other hand, we expect and request identical reactions as of tomorrow (Saturday), Kisanak said.
Those who have organized Friday's attack should not expect any results. We will continue to exist in all corners of Turkey. We will always support tranquility, peace and brotherhood. No one should attempt to scare and discourage us. We are a political party that knows how to take an attitude against such attacks, Kisanak said.
Asked by a reporter if they had received any threats in the past few days, Kisanak said that "we have not received any threats in the past few days. However, we have been attacked for the fifth time in the past one year".
In response to an other question, Kisanak underscored that the bullets were sprayed on party rooms whose lights were already turned off at the time of the attack.
The way the attack was conducted shows that it was a very organized one and it was implemented to not kill but rather to threaten and cause fear, Kisanak also said.
Meanwhile, Sirri Sakik, a deputy of the BDP from eastern province of Mus, argued that "the assailants (who attacked BDP on Friday night) were arrested but were released later".

Ultra-nationalist Serb facing war crimes charged with court contempt
The Yugoslavian tribunal has charged Vojislav Seselj with contempt of court for revealing details about protected witnesses related to his war crimes trial.
The Yugoslavian war crimes tribunal has charged Serbian nationalist Vojislav Seselj with contempt of court for revealing details about protected witnesses related to his war crimes trial.
Seslj was convicted of the same charge last year, and the new indictment means Seselj could be jailed for up to seven years if found guilty, regardless of the outcome of his war crimes trial.
Seselj, leader of Serbia's ultra-nationalist Radical Party, was the first suspect charged with contempt of court while on trial for war crimes at the Hague-based tribunal and was sentenced last July to 15 months imprisonment.
He has appealed that ruling, however, which related to information over three protected witnesses.
The International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia (ICTY) said on Friday it had again charged Seselj with contempt for disclosing information on 11 protected witnesses in violation of court orders in a book he authored.
"The tribunal regards the integrity of witnesses and confidential materials as essential elements in the rule of law," the ICTY said in a statement.
In the latest contempt of court indictment, Seselj is accused of revealing the names, occupations and places of residence of 11 protected witnesses.
The disclosures are not at this stage expected to impact his war crimes trial, but judges will have a chance to comment on the matter next week.
The trial of Seselj, charged with inciting violence against Bosnians and Croatians in the former Yugoslavia during the 1990s, resumed last month after a year's delay with witnesses giving testimony behind closed doors to protect their identity.
The trial had been suspended after prosecutors said the case had been compromised by threats against a witness.
Seselj has pleaded not guilty to 15 counts for crimes between 1991 and at least 1993, including torture, murder and forced deportation of non-Serbs by his party's militia.
The latest contempt of court indictment against Seselj comes after a confidential decision by appeals judges in December overturning an earlier decision which found there were insufficient grounds to prosecute him.
A date for an initial plea hearing has not yet been set.

'Neo-Nazi' party allowed to distribute CDs outside schools (Germany)
German authorities have decided to step aside as the National Democratic Party of Germany, a radical far-right political group that is often described as ‘neo-Nazi’, distributes CDs outside of schools, a report said Saturday.
Germany authorities have said they will not prevent the neo-Nazi NPD party from distributing CDs outside schools with interviews and music by members of its party, a report said Saturday.
The youth protection office said the disc by the National Democratic Party of Germany, the country's most radical far-right party which touts an anti-immigrant agenda, just contained political opinions, the report in the Suddeutsche Zeitung said.
The office therefore found no basis on which to ban the disc, the report quoted director Elke Monsen-Engberding as saying.
According to the NPD the original demand to ban the distribution of the CDs came from the north east state of Lower Saxony.
On its website, the NPD welcomed the decision.
The party could "continue to try to transmit its ideas to young people, schoolchildren and first-time voters", NPD member Claus Cremer said.
NPD legal affairs minister Frank Schwerdt, who has served two prison sentences for inciting racial hatred and distributing Nazi propaganda, also appeared on the website celebrating the decision.
In November last year, German authorities banned the sale of homegrown hard rock group Rammstein's new album to fans under 18, for what it deemed explicit sadomasochist lyric

Two Kaluga (Russia) Police Officers Face Extremism Charges
Two police officers in Kaluga, Russia face extremism charges, according to a January 28, 2010 report by the Regnum news agency. According top prosecutors, on September 27, 2009 police detained two citizens ofUzbekistan on administrative charges. The two officers then allegedly assaulted the Uzbeks out of racist motives.
Prosecution of police officers under hate crimes or extremism statutes is extremely rare in Russia, despite widespread reports of racial profiling and police violence against minorities. The officers then allegedly forced
other detainees to assault the Uzbeks, threatening to hurt them if they didn't. The officers also face charges of "exceeding official authority"--the closest equivalent to a torture statute in the Russian
Criminal Code. If convicted on all counts, the officers face up to 15 years in prison.

Roughly 100 people attended the March against Racism and Neo-Nazism in Prague Thursday afternoon. The quiet march ended outside the Faculty of Law of Charles University in the Jewish Quarter from where the participants went home. Tens of police patrolled the event. The participants met at Prague's namesti Miru square. After speeches they marched through Wenceslas Square and Old Town Square shouting slogans such as Stop to Nazism! The march was staged by the group Facebook Against Racial Bias. Activists said the march wanted to "actively intervene against the growing ultra right as the public and the government are ignoring the serious problem." The march also wanted to remember victims of World War Two. Facebook Against Racial Bias is a group of five young people who are not from any party.

FRENCH ANTI-SEMITIC INCIDENTS DOUBLE IN 2009
Anti-Semitic crimes in France coinciding with the Gaza war drove the number of anti-Semitic incidents in 2009 to nearly double over the previous year, according to a new report. The Jewish Community Protection Service counted 832 anti-Semitic acts committed in France last year, compared to 474 in 2008, according to a report made public Thursday. Some 42 percent of the incidents, 354, took place in January, during Israel's military operation in Gaza. By February, the number of monthly anti-Semitic acts was down to 62 and by the summer, the number had dropped below those of 2008 for the most part. The Protection Service said that 43 percent of the anti-Semitic incidents in 2009 involved written statements such as graffiti, 28 percent spoken comments and threats, 10 percent violence, 9 percent vandalism, 2 percent arson or attempt at arson, and 8 percent distributed printed material. Thousands joined in pro-Palestinian protests across France during the Gaza war in late December 2008 and January 2009. Several of those protests turned riotous, and many anti-Semitic crimes were reported in connection with the marches.JTA

Adolf Hitler's 'Mein Kampf' to be republished in Germany
Adolf Hitler's autobiography "Mein Kampf" is to be republished in Germany in 2015 for the first time since being banned under the country's constitution at the end of the Second World War.
Under the post-1945 German constitution, the dissemination of Nazi philosophy has been a crime punishable by fines and imprisonment.
But the copyright, held by the state of Bavaria where the Nazi movement began life in the 1920s, expires in 2015, 70 years after the death of its author in his Berlin bunker.
On Thursday the Munich-based Institute of Contemporary History (IfZ) pledged to publish an "annotated version" with historical notes that it hopes will see the book used in schools and colleges.
The finance ministry in Bavaria said it had still not decided whether to give its permission but it is understood that with the lapse in copyright, the IfZ will not need the green light from it. "Besides, we think our version, with sensible notes and comments pointing out the falsity of much of what he wrote, will be far better than neo-Nazis putting out their own versions," said the IfZ.
Jewish leaders in Germany have already pledged their support for the project, saying they believe it "would prevent neo-Nazi from profiteering from Mein Kampf. while an aggressive and enlightening engagement with the book would doubtless remove many of its false, persisting myths".
The IfZ wants the agreement of the finance ministry in Bavaria before the 2015 deadline so as to begin work on the project right away.
Mein Kampf became a better seller than the Bible in the Third Reich.
Hitler became a multi-millionaire through royalties while newspapers around the world, including some in the UK, serialised his work.
It was written when he was sentenced to five years in jail for attempting to overthrow the government in 1924. It is filled with the prejudices and hatreds of an uneducated man and within its pages are endless rants against the Jews, who he would soon attempt to eliminate altogether.
In another passage he foretells his plans for the conquest of Russia, writing: "We must eliminate the disproportion between our population and our area...... Some of this land can be obtained from Russia. We must secure for the German people the land and soil to which they are entitled."
Over 12 million copies were sold in Nazi Germany. Recently an edition of the book became a best seller in Turkey.

Anti-Semitic attacks against Jews 'rise in the UK'
Attacks on Jews in the UK reached record levels in 2009, according to figures compiled within the community.
The Community Security Trust (CST) said it had recorded 924 incidents over the year, 55% more than the previous high of 598 incidents in 2006.
The organisation, which monitors incidents against Jewish people and organisations, said the rise was linked to last year's Gaza conflict.
Prime Minister Gordon Brown described the figures as "deeply troubling".

It works closely with the police and government on combating racial and religious hatred.
The organisation says the record rise follows two years of falling figures, with the majority of the incidents occurring during or immediately after the conflict in Gaza between Israel and Hamas.
The two-month Gaza conflict began in December 2008 and the CST said acts of anti-Semitism shot up in January and eventually levelled in April.
The vast majority of incidents were abusive behaviour, but 124 of the reports were acts of violence. Some 37 incidents were targeted at children on their way to school, the organisation said.
'Stand firm'
In a statement issued through the CST, Gordon Brown said: "The increase in anti-Semitic incidents recorded by CST in the early part of last year is deeply troubling and I want to be unequivocal today.
"I am a proud friend of Israel and welcome a robust debate about how we ensure both a secure Israel and a viable Palestinian state existing side by side.
"The debate is welcome, but no strength of feeling can ever justify violent extremism or attacks and we will stand firm against all those who would use anti-Israeli feeling as an excuse or disguise for anti-Semitism and attacks on the Jewish community."
One incident included strips of bacon being placed on the door handles of a Leeds synagogue. On another occasion, a 12-year-old girl, the only Jew at her school, was surrounded by other pupils who chanted "death to Jews".
Shadow schools secretary Michael Gove said: "Every one in public life - politicians, media figures, academics and community leaders - has to recognise that this growth in anti-Semitism is a stain on our society.
"History tells us that whenever Jewish individuals feel less safe, society as a whole is becoming less free. We must learn the lessons of the past."
And the Liberal Democrat's home affairs spokesman Chris Huhne said: "We must do everything we can to prevent foreign conflicts from spilling over on to British streets and campuses."
The police and government agencies do not use the CST's figures and instead rely on statistics for recorded offences and convictions in courts.
The most up-to-date figures on hate crimes suggest there was a fall in racial and religiously-aggravated incidents between 2007 and 2008.
Some police forces calculate local trends for religiously motivated incidents, but there are no national figures for hate crimes against any specific group, such as Jews or Muslims.
Last month, researchers at Exeter University called on Muslims to start counting their own figures in a similar fashion to the CST, saying there was evidence of an under-reporting of anti-Muslim hatred

Police launch investigation into anti-Semitic Facebook group
Police have launched an urgent investigation into a horrific Facebook group that gave graphic details of anti-Semitic incidents perpetrated by its members against Ilford's Jewish community.
The group, created by a student at Loxford School of Science and Technology, attracted more than 500 members in two weeks following its launch last month and featured teenagers boasting about engaging in anti-Semitic behaviour.
It featured messages from youths using language rife with spelling errors, profanities and teenag colloquialisms.
One girl wrote: "Jews are the ones that killed prophets in the past. Dirty filthy scum-bags. No wonder they have the curse of Allah upon them. Burn Jew burn."
Another stated: "OMG! ii Saw a Jew Todaii ii Swearr downn Weariingg Dahh Hatt He Lookedd At Me Liike Man Knowsz Me [sic]."

Another stated: "OMG! ii Saw a Jew Todaii ii Swearr downn Weariingg Dahh Hatt He Lookedd At Me Liike Man Knowsz Me [sic]."She went on to describe screaming obscenities at the man and rudely telling him to go away.
In a further disturbing post, a girl bragged about aggressively confronting
a Jewish woman in Argos after she was "looking at me". She wrote: "Looool i Had a Fight Wif 1 Urgh in Argos [sic]."
The Jewish News was informed about the group, created by a student at Loxford School, by a private investigator in Australia. It has since been removed from the popular social networking site.
The group was described by a Community Security Trust (CST) official as "one of the most shocking things I have ever seen".
A spokeswoman from Redbridge Council, speaking on behalf of Loxford School, said the school was contacted about the group and then immediately reported it to Facebook and the police.
The spokeswoman said: "The student concerned has been dealt with and the school has taken disciplinary action. There is an ongoing police investigation so we are unable to comment further."
Ilford police confirmed it had "received an allegation regarding anti-Semitic material being published on a social networking website".
A spokeswoman told the Jewish News that the police are investigating and inquiries continue.
Several comments on the vile Facebook site include misguided references to Islam and the Koran as justification for targeting Jews. #
One female youth wrote: "We hate Jews for the sake of Allah as he has told us to do in the Koran."
The group page included offensive jokes invoking pejorative stereotypes about Jews and money as well as an anti-Semitic cartoon. There was also a link to a YouTube video entitled "Kill All Christians and Jews".
In addition several members expressed anti-Israeli sentiment. There was a photograph of graffiti saying "Jihad 4 Israel" and a link to another YouTubev video of "a brave Palestinian girl standing up to Israeli soldiers".
Mike Gardner, director of communications at the CST, said he was left "utterly chilled" by the casual way that the youths displayed their anti-Semitism.
He said: "It shows how new media is now facilitating the most shocking anti-Semitism among groups of youngsters, as if hatred and violence and gross ignorance were all just a part of their normal lives.
"Anybody who wants to understand how anti-Semitism can be transmitted today should study this online group closely, but they will need a strong stomach to do so."
The CST, which is due to release its latest findings on anti-Semitism in the UK this week, has previously reported 609 incidents in the first six months of 2009, more than in any other entire year. A report released by the Jewish Agency last month revealed that there were more anti-Semitic incidents in Europe in 2009 than in any year since the Holocaust. Mike Gapes, the local MP for Ilford South, urged the authorities to take
"very strong action". Gapes told the Jewish News: "I am deeply concerned. Incitement to hatred is a crime and we must stand very firm and take action against anyone who incited racial or religious hatred. Anti-Semitism has to be opposed."
Lee Scott MP for Ilford North also denounced the site, saying: "It is shocking and I condemn it."
A Facebook spokeswoman said that the group was removed because it breached the company's policies. She said: "We want Facebook to be a place where people can openly discuss issues and express their views, while respecting the rights and feelings of others." She added that users should report groups that they feel violate Facebook's rules.
Spencer Lewis, the headteacher of local Jewish high school King Solomon said: "We have had no problems at all with Loxford that I am aware of and we have a very good relationship with the school." Have you encountered anti-Semitism online?

NAZI DEATH CAMP SURVIVOR RECOGNISES JOHN DEMJANJUK (Germany)
John Demjanjuk is accused of being a guard at Sobibor camp in occupied Poland and aiding the murder of 27,900 Dutch Jews who were gassed during his alleged time there. "I remember him, I remember them all," Alexei Vaitsen, 87, told Czech Radio. "He was a guard. I saw him leading a group of prisoners to work in a forest." Mr Vaitsen, a Jewish veteran paratrooper who is seriously ill after several heart attacks, was shown a photograph of John Demjanjuk by a reporter. Mr Vaitsen is the first living witness to positively identify Demjanjuk, who is on trial in Munich in what is likely to be the last major case dealing with war crimes by the Nazi regime. Demjanjuk, 89, claims that he was a prisoner of the Germans for the whole of the war and has not said a word since the trial begun last month. He was arrested, tried and sentenced to death in Israel 20 years ago but was cleared when new evidence surfaced. "I'm glad he was put on trial," said Mr Vaitsen, who lost his entire family in the war and escaped from Sobibor after a rebellion in late 1943. "But can you really call that a trial when he refuses to communicate with the judge? "I would like a real trial for him, one that he couldn't escape again." Efraim Zuroff, chief Nazi-hunter at the Simon Wiesenthal Center in Jerusalem, told Czech Radio the discovery was "great news" but said it had to be verified. Prosecution lawyers are using testimony from survivors to prove that if Demjanjuk was a guard at the camp, he would have played an active role in the mass killings there.

You Tube Neo-Nazi Used Cliff Richard To Promote Anti-Semitic Hate
A neo-Nazi anti-Semitic You Tube user with the user id of DrHochbichler yesterday had his channel image and video as pictured below.
If you can’t make it out it’s Ann Frank in a bathing suit outside Auschwitz with Hitler as the Sun and the video choice is Cliff Richard singing “Summer Holiday”. Oh and his user ID image is of Joseph Mengele.
Now most people will find this an extremely sick ‘joke’; however today he has changed it to an image of Gaza with Israeli soldiers, a dead Palestinian (we believe), an image of Joseph Mengele and a Wham video of “wake me up before you Go Go”.
This channel can be found at http://www.youtube.com/DrHochbichler
The user has posted comments on various videos on YouTube which include
(speaking about the single for the Haiti appeal)
“I'm not giving a fucking penny to those black bastards,,,all they do is take,,take,,take,,f*** them ,,let them all die fucking worthless shits”
(speaking about the hospital collapsing Haiti)
“They should have put some NEGRO children in there so they could practice emergency rescue”
“jews offend me every fuc**** day”
“I once tried to hang a cat but it slipped out it's collar and ran away”
“The good old days,,,back when you could kill your nig*** then claim on the insurance”
“Nig**** OUT”
You Tube allows this to happen. It is down to the other users to see this content, find it offensive and complain. Even if reported it still may take some time before You Tube does anything to the user or channel, such as remove it and suspend the user.
This is a demonstration of how power corrupts as you Tube has forgotten what is considered extremely offensive in the real world.
You will also notice both these these images of the channel had adverts on the page at the time the screen capture was taken .

We do wonder how these advertisers will feel when the realise that their wares are being advertised next to extreme anti-Semitic content.

German Police Arrest Serbian Neo-Nazi Leader Goran "the Fuhrer" Davidovic
German police have arrested Serbian neo-Nazi leader Goran "the Fuhrer" Davidovic, media reported on Wednesday (February 3rd). Justice Minister Snezana Malovic said authorities have requested his extradition. Interpol issued an arrest warrant for Davidovic who was sentenced in Serbia to a year in prison for inciting national, ethnic and religious hatred stemming from a 2005 attack against participants of an anti-Fascist meeting. He was arrested on the warrant last April in Italy but was freed on appeal. Authorities are not sure how he made it to Germany

Alleged skinhead pleads guilty in plot to kill Obama
JACKSON, Tennessee - An Arkansas man pleaded guilty to charges he plotted to kill then-Sen. Barack Obama and dozens of other Black people in 2008.
He faces up to 10 years in prison when he is sentenced in April.
A co-defendant, Daniel Cowart, 21, of Tennessee, remains in custody.
Authorities have described the two as White supremacist skinheads who hatched a plot for a cross-country robbery and killing spree that was to culminate with an attack on Mr. Obama, who was then a candidate for president.
They were arrested in October 2008 and have been held without bond since.
“Despite great civil rights progress, hate-fueled violence remains all too common in our country, as illustrated by this unthinkable conspiracy,” Thomas E. Perez, assistant attorney general for the Civil Rights Division in the Justice Department, said in a statement.
An after hours message left with the federal public defenders office, who represented Mr. Schlesselman, was not immediately returned. Authorities have said that although the two had enough guns to create carnage, they never got close to carrying out their plans.
When arrested, suspects Cowart and Schlesselman were staying with Mr. Cowart's grandparents in rural northwest Tennessee. When arrested, suspects Cowart and Schlesselman were staying with Mr. Cowart's grandparents in rural northwest Tennessee. Much of the government's evidence against the two was seized by sheriff's deputies from the grandparents' home. Items seized from the home included a sawed-off shotgun, a high-powered rifle, a handgun and several swords and knives.
Federal investigators have said the two gave statements about their plans, which included shooting at Obama from a speeding car while wearing white tuxedoes and top hats.
Prosecutors have said investigators were looking for Mr. Schlesselman and Mr. Cowart on a tip from an informant when the two drove up to the home of Mr. Cowart's grandfather in a car emblazoned with a large swastika on the hood and the slogan “Honk if you love Hitler” on the back.
Authorities say Mr. Cowart and Mr. Schlesselman met over the Internet where they shared common White supremacist views.

HUNGARY TRIES AGAIN TO OUTLAW HOLOCAUST DENIAL
Hungary's caretaker government has introduced legislation to make Holocaust denial punishable by three years’ imprisonment. Passage of the long-delayed proposal could take place before the April 11 parliamentary elections, said Attila Mesterhazy, the prime ministerial candidate of the ruling Socialists, if the opposition parties agree. Political observers here believe that is unlikely to happen, but the proposal may well pave the way for such law reform by the next Parliament following April's elections. The government’s latest of several attempts to make Holocaust denial illegal was introduced on Jan. 27, International Holocaust Remembrance Day. At ceremonies in Budapest last week to honor the Holocaust dead, who included some 600,000 Hungarian Jews, Israeli Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman said the most effective approach to counter the aggressive rise of anti-Semitism in Hungary would be through the legislative process. MP Plans Immigrant Benefit Ban To Battle BNP
A senior Labour Minister has said new immigrants should be banned from claiming benefitsCulture Minister Margaret Hodge claims the needs of those who have lived in Britain longer should come first, with immigrants having to 'earn' benefits."In the same way that we feel comfortable in talking about cracking down on people playing the system, we should also feel comfortable in talking about prioritizing the needs of people who have lived in an area all of their lives," she said.
"At the moment we have the worst of both worlds.
"The issue is so controversial that we avoid talking about it or attack those who do.
"Because there is no good hard data on what actually happens, we are left with anecdotal evidence indicating there is a problem."
The MP for Barking and Dagenham spoke out as she prepares to battle BNP leader Nick Griffin in the general election.
Writing in the Daily Mail, she said politicians need to be braver about discussing controversial issues to combat the rising popularity of the nationalist party.
"People believe rightly or wrongly that others are getting the housing before they do," she said.
"The result is people feel resentful about what they see as an injustice in the system and the BNP and other right wing parties seek to turn this resentment into popular support for them.
"The very mention of the word immigration causes controversy and the whole debate is often seen through the prism of racism.
"The result is parties like the BNP tap into people's frustrations and that's why we've seen a rise in support for them.
"It's not because people like what the BNP stand for, in fact people are repulsed by Nick Griffin's views on the Holocaust and his sympathy with the Nazis."
Ms Hodge said her constituents in Barking and Dagenham have legitimate concerns about the strain that a population swelled by immigration puts on jobs and services.
Her solution is a point system based on length of residence, citizenship or national insurance contributions.
"This isn't about race, it's about having a transparent system which people understand and which is fair," she said.
The minister stressed that she was not referring to the treatment of refugees who come to the country to escape persecution.
UK’s Neo-Nazi groups membership lists coming soon “fingers crossed!”
Wiki-Leaks the people behind the leaked lists of BNP members promised some time ago that they were soon to release membership lists of the Neo-Nazi, far right extremist groups in the UK. However due to financial overheads Wiki-Leaks has suspended all activity until they could raise the money to carry on.
The great news has reached us today that Wiki-leaks has reached the required funding and are soon to be back up and running.
So let’s hope one of the first things they do is post these much anticipated membership lists. It will be interesting to see if any of these extremist are known to us or are members of the BNP.
A third of Britons think Peter Griffin from Family Guy is the leader of the BNP
One in three members of the public matched a picture of Nick Griffin, the BNP leader, with the name of Peter Griffin, the protagonist of the cartoon sitcom.
The survey of 1,498 people found more were able to identify a picture of Alex Reid, the new husband of Katie Price, than recognised Gordon Brown, the prime minister.
The survey of 1,498 people found more were able to identify a picture of Alex Reid, the new husband of Katie Price, than recognised Gordon Brown, the prime minister. The study, in which respondents were asked to put names to photographs of well-known public figures, showed that David Cameron is the best recognised opposition politician, with 73 per cent of people identifying him as the leader of the Conservative Party.
Gordon Brown was the most recognised politician with 81% of people matching his face to his name, but Alex Reid, the cage fighter was still better known, with 84 per cent of respondents recognising him.
The survey, by the money-saving website MyVoucherCodes, also showed that 41 per cent of people identified a photograph of Nick Clegg, the Liberal Democrat leader, as the Dragons' Den entrepreneur Peter Jones.
Katia Ivanova, the former girlfriend of Ronnie Wood, also proved more recognisable than a number of leading politicians. Mark Pearson, managing director of the money-saving website, said: "The fact that Katia Ivanova, who is famous for having slept with a Rolling Stone, is better known that Jack Straw and Alan Johnson put together is indicative of the fact that the public are heavily influenced by the media.”
“It isn’t for us to judge whether or not this is right or wrong, but put forward the facts: one of which being that a third of people think that Peter Griffin is the leader of the BNP.”
Court limits Geert Wilders' witness list (Amsterdam the Netherlands)
The killer of Theo van Gogh and 14 of the other witnesses anti-Islam MP Geert Wilders wanted to call in his defence against charges of discrimination and inciting hatred have been ruled inadmissible by Amsterdam district court.
But three Islam experts proposed by Wilders will be heard behind closed doors, the judges said on Wednesday afternoon. They include American Syrian psychiatrist Wafa Sultan who believes the world is witness to 'a battle between modernity and barbarism which Islam will lose'. The court also turned down Wilders' request to hear five legal experts on the grounds that the MP will have ample opportunity to say whether or not he agrees with them during the trial. He had wanted to call 18 experts and Muslim radicals.
Truth
Wilders has stated his case not only rests on freedom of speech legislation but on the fact that he is speaking the truth.'This court is apparently not interested in the truth. I can conclude nothing else other than that the court does not wish me a fair trial,' he was reported as saying by news agency ANP after the judges' statement.
Wilders faces five counts of religious insult and anti-Muslim incitement. In January, the public prosecution department extended the prosecution case to include inciting hatred of Muslims, Moroccans and non-Western immigrants.
Open court
The court also turned down the prosecution's call for Wilders himself to be interviewed by an examining judge behind closed doors. Wilders had said he wanted to be questioned in open court.
The prosecution is not planning to bring any witnesses.
The case will take place at some point between June 1 and October 31, news agency ANP reported.

Jewish council lauds 'renaissance' in Germany
Germany is experiencing a “renaissance of Judaism” as the number of synagogues and community members continues to grow some 65 years after the end of the Nazi reign of terror, the German Jewish Council said on Wednesday.
Since the end of the Second World War 107 Jewish congregations have developed with a total of 106,000 members, the paper reported.
Knobloch also called for stronger action against racism and anti-Semitism in Germany, saying she was concerned by the high incidence of anti-Semitic attacks in parts of the country.

“I am very happy that we can now experience the renaissance that we’ve been talking about for so many years,” council President Charlotte Knobloch told daily Neue Osnabrücker Zeitung.

Jews in Germany no longer sit on what Knobloch called “packed suitcases.” Instead they have become a part of German society and want to participate in its future, she said.Knobloch also called for stronger action against racism and anti-Semitism in Germany, saying she was concerned by the high incidence of anti-Semitic attacks in parts of the country.
