Liberal Christian portal mindennapi.hu has turned to police over threats from supporters of radical nationalist party Jobbik.
Nationalist readers had written vulgar messages and made threats to Editor-in-Chief György Balavány in response to an article in which he harshly criticized Jobbik Chairman Gábor Vona's recent year-end speech and defended Hungary's Gypsy minority.
In his speech, Vona had said one of the problems facing Hungary is that the Roma minority is reproducing too fast, and this reproduction should be stopped. Balavány wrote that the Gypsies were probably casting curses on Vona now, and he agreed with them.
